low reception speed I am using a slingbox solo to remotely view tv when I am away from the UK. My home and host country internet speeds have checked out ok my PC is of good spec and is up to date with all drivers etc. Sometimes my remote viewing is ok and others it is not watchable. I have tried everything and surfed the internet for answers slingbox have no answer and do not want to know. I would not recommend this product to anybody. I have had it for less than a month and I will try to get my money back.
Rubbish I have spent hours trying to get this to work properly. I'm trying to use it on my home network with powerline networking. When it does connect it's jerky and keeps rebuffering. It is basically unwatchable. God knows what it's like over the internet.And now I'm trying to connect to my account which I set up yesterday and I get the response that my account does not exist or an error has occurred. Helpful.Avoid.
slingbox solo I spend a lot of time working away in foreign countries and got tired of trying to watch sport via the various streaming sites by the time i'd managed to find a stable connection with a wiewable stream the match or whatever was usually over. For some reason its not possible to watch even commercial uk tv from abroad. So when i heard about the slingbox i thought i'd give it a try.I was impressed with how simple it was to set up within 10 minutes of opening the box i was able to watch sky through my laptop the hardest thing was working out where the remote sensor was located on the skybox but after guessing where it was correctly it worked fine.A great bonus is that its not restricted to one pc so if you can download the slingbox software you can watch from anywhere only one pc/laptop at a time so you cant share it across the world but that isnt what i got it for. If you are already logged in from one pc and you try to connect to another a message just pops up asking if you want to disconnect the first easy.The only drawback i must mention is that the quality isnt perfect over the internet but i suspect this is due to the upload speed where i live when i first tried it at home on my own network it was fine. Even though this is dissapointing i cant blame the slingbox. If you live in a city with a better upload speed i would say this wouldnt be an issue at all at its best it great and at its worst its still watchable. One thing that is good though is that even when the connection is poor the quality of the picture just drops right down i have only had a couple of instances where it has actually stopped. It used to drive me insane when watching streaming from the internet and it kept freezing and buffering every 10 secs.All in all im very happy with my purchase i can sit in my room and have complete control over my skybox just like i was at home i have multiroom so no disputes over whats being watched by my family. I am now able to watch all tv instead of just being restricted to sport which has made being stuck abroad much more bearable. If you spend a lot of time away get one.
Does what it says on the tin! As we spend part of the year in Cyprus we wanted to be able to use our UK TV service there rather than pay for a satellite service. We had a bit of a problem setting the sling box up mainly because our Virgin V+ box disables all other outputs when using HDMI. The very helpful call service at Sling media did suggest a setup which involved using the HDMI component output to the sling box and another cable back to the TV. This would mean leaving the Sling box set up even when we were at home. We also couldn't get the V+ box to change to HDMI component so because of lack of time in solving this problem we decided to use the composite connection using the Scart socket. This did involve a bit of trial and error but eventually we got video and sound. However it did mean that we had to change the output on the V+ box to nonHDMI when using the sling box.We can now access all the functions of our V+ box abroad and we are very pleased with the reception. When we have time we will further investigate how to send HD output to the Sling box. However I am surprised that the Sling box doesn't have a HD input which would make life easier and save having to buy an expensive component cable.Overall a very good product which I recommend.
Beware This product is a great idea and I also bout the app for the ipad I spent over £125. It comes with a 2 year warranty and ceased to work after 6 months. If you follow the procedure of trying to return the item for repair or refund as you are told you will find it impossible and get nowhere.
Best gadget Ever Absolutely LOVE my slingbox. Bought it as was going to be working in the Caribbean for a couple of months and didn't want to miss all the football season.Was so easy to set up and just works as i expected.
Slingbox best purchase.. I am so pleased i bought this once setup it is like having your own set top box with you wherever you go .. Setup can be a pain because its a global product and has to support hundreds of different boxes. I have a Virgin v+ box samsung SMTH3110 and through lots of web reserch found that i had to type Telewest TV Drive into the remote setup section to get the right remote. It works perfectly . I also bought the iPad app sling player which works well but takes some getting used to the controls its also priced a bit steep at £ 20 But at least now i can watch Formula 1 practice and races while im away from home.
MTU Settings are key The MTU settings need to be correct on both router and Windows PC in order for the stream to work for more then 30 minutes otherwise the video will freeze and disconnect with an error.
Slingbox Solo What a superb piece of equipment. I have used two Slingbox Classics for approximately 4 years for use on laptops when away from home and they are still in use.However in order to view home Sky TV away from home on an iPad you have to use a Solo or Pro. In my opinion the Solo is the better choice and cheaper which I purchased from Amazon. It was so easy to set up and reception is very good although you must have an ADSL speed of 1Mbit or above at least. Any problems you come across can be easily resolved by contacting Slingbox Support at normal BT charges. When visiting the Costa Blanca Spain recently I found the reception and performance really good when using the local Spanish ADSL and enjoyed UK TV.
Slingbox Solo An excellent product when working. Unfortunately my first one failed after 10 months but top marks to Amazon for replacing it with no problem. I give them 5 stars! Away from home there is about a 15 second delay in the received TV signal but that's fine. The picture itself is good on my notebook PC but less defined on a desktop for whatever reason at the same distant address 250 miles from home.
