Good No Complaints I guess on how to rate the dvd player does exactly as required. I have played dvds which look slightly upscaled and used wih a 16gb memory stick as well which worked fine as well so all in all a good purchase for the price. Also got a HMDI cable for about 1.99 which has worked seamlessly with it.
Perfect purchase I purchased this after my previous DVD player sadly died. I chose this as I wanted to get the HD quality without having to upgrade my whole dvd collection for Bluray. I also wanted a player that would allow me to play video files. This does all of that and is very nice to look at too. I've managed to watch various .avi files on this player no problem. Yes the menus aren't top quality but its a small price to pay for the quality of the product.Very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend this for people looking to upgrade their dvd player.
Toshiba SD5010 Having read all the reviews on here and other websites I was worried that the blacks wouldn't be black. Or that it doesn't make me coffee in the morning. Ok maybe not the last one I have so far found the DVD player does everything it says on the box it plays DVDs though scart and HDMI It also plays divX avi's from dvd's cd's and via usb. It will reliably read from any media that formatted to fat32 not NTFS So what! I have tried it with external hard disks usb pen 248 and 16gb All work provided you format them correctly to fat32.The picture quality is excellent. I am no WhatHifi reviewer However as an ordinary consumer I have no complaints about the hardware at this price. It is excellent. If you want better picture quality buy a blueray player.Hope this has been helpful.
Basic DVD player do not expect a Wow factor! PLEASE READ! SERIOUS LIMITATIONS OF THE PRODUCTI've had the same problem as others so it is not an isolated incident the HDMI no longer works on my player. We brought it at Christmas and by end of January the HDMI had stopped working without warning conveniently just outside the 30 days and we are limited to scart only!If you are wanting the player for HDMI I would recommend going for a more substantial model. The machine does not have a hackcode option we've tried everything and scoured the web even asked the techno gurus at work who say this model seems to be unhackable at this time so its R2 only. Also the USB is very tempramental and as it can't play MP4 which lets be honest is the major form for digital format programmes and films now it has limited use just adds £10 to the price. If you want a basic R2 only DVD player this is fine good for kids etc. For film buffs and techno fans I would recommend a different brand e.g. Panasonic or even the Tesco Value DVD player £20 which is superb and plays any DVD we've thrown at it so far! We'll be getting a new one soon putting it down to experience and religating this to the guest bedroom!Hope this helps some of you. Bottom line we've been pretty unimpressed overall.

it could have been better I was a bit unsure to buy this DVD after reading mixed reviews but I went for it anyway and in my case it was a bit disappointing. I bought this DVD because I wanted to be able to connect my USB driver to watch films the reason why I chose this DVD and no other is because this DVD player offered the possibility to upgrade to HDMI in the future when I upgrade my TV. I first had a little problem when tried to connect my external hard dive but didn't work. I'd read in other reviews that needed to be FAT32 formatted which could have been the problem. I connected my pen drive and worked fine so never got round to reformat my hard drive and try again. But the main problem I found on this DVD player is that every time we watched a film had to change batteries in the remote control. After first time I thought batteries supplied when I bought it were faulty and happily changed for another set of high quality. After second time I thought I had left remote control in a bad position and a key remained pressed and that's why I got flat batteries. Watched one film on new set of batteries and next day when I went to use again I found batteries were flat again. After third time I changed batteries made sure remote was placed ok and next time I try to use it story repeats again after watching a movie next day the remote stopped working again! It definitely there was a problem with the remote control so sadly I decided to return my DVD as faulty. Following amazon instructions I returned the DVD and after three days I got an email saying they had sent me a credit note.
Perfect Very stylish bargain price great performance including the upscaling and the USB input for photos and DivX is a real plus.
    HDMI stopped working
Excellent value DVD player Toshiba's SD5010 upscaling DVD player is of excellent quality and is extremely lightweight ideal as a second DVD player for the bedroom. Now there's very little point in buying an upscaling player if you don't intend to use it via HDMI setting this machine to output 1080p does indeed bring new life and picture quality to your existing DVD collection.Surprisingly so for a budget player the USB port is handy for playing back multimedia files from say a USB stick. It's not a jack of all trades port though as it will only play certain formats but the mere fact Toshiba have included it is credit to them. One final thing the unit looks great in shiny gloss black but attracts dust very easily so be prepared to run that feather duster over it often!Overall this an excellent budget player if you don't want to fork out the extra for a Blu Ray Player then this is the next best thing.
Nothing Special Bought this primarily to play files via USB and I can confirm that it does this fairly well. It even recognizes my 1TB portable hard drive but will only play files that are in DivX or AVI format. This is supposed to upscale DVD's but to be honest I can't see much difference between this and my standard DVD player although there is certainly no problem with the picture quality. Now onto my complaintsThere is no counter display on the machine all it displays is one number which is the chapter you are watching. This becomes rather irritating when you would like to see how long a film has been on for or how long remains. If you want to do this you have to put the onscreen display on.Also the machine has froze on me on 2 occasions making me have to switch it off at the mains and back on again! It has also powered itself up without me turning it on and said there is no disc when there quite clearly isSo to summarise It's good for DivX via USB but not all that great overall I would certainly expect more from a top end player.
